Everyday life in Rio

This post is based on my experience from past 3 weeks when I already started working in NGO, where I deliver English classes.

People wake up early, grab some bread and coffee, if they have time, and go for bus. Same as I do. People from suburban and living areas need to travel to commercial zones that offer more jobs. Those are in general Downtown, Copacabana or Barra. The mean of transportation is usually a bus. Also people living in the opposite part of the Guanabara bay in Niteroi might take a ferry.

Exploring the Olympic Park

As you probably know this year summer Olympic games will take place in Rio de Janeiro. There is going to be multiple venues reserved for the Olympics (Barra, Deodoro, Maracana, Copacabana and other football cities through Brasil). In the first post I little bit talked about my volunteering at Olympics. I am not allowed to describe the details but I hopefully may say that the process started in November 2014 and final confirmation came somewhere around April 2016. Since then I have been putting my masterplan together and here I am.

In todays post I want to cover two things: Olympics has divided Brasil society same as Brexit has with the British one (FTW UK?), there are people who hugely support the Olympics and people who are totally against. I will try to explain it based on the information I have from the locals. Second will be hopefully beautiful trip to the Barra Olympic Park and Olympic Village.

3 days in Rio

It has been already 3 days since I landed in Rio de Jainero. I got the most warm welcome from Vitoria’s family, which picked me up at the airport. Same experience was later with Fagner’s family, my new family. I am glad that AIESEC, the organization through which I undergo this exprience, do this reception. I would be totally lost in such a big city as Rio.

Wazzup?!

My friends, treasured acquaintances, visitors welcome to the site which will become for the next two months home of some uber cool content from my experience in Brazil. My name is Marecek (pronounced “mareczek”) and I consider myself being a totally regular Czech guy.

The plans are huge but the highlight should be my participation as a volunteer in the Rio 2016 Olympics, first olympics taking place in South America.
